On February 19, 2017, former Uber employee Susan J. Fowler wrote a blog post reflecting on her year working for the company. Her blog post featured stories of how a culture of sexual harassment and sexism ran rampant throughout the company, which included a negligent Human Resources department and a victim blaming mentality when Fowler decided to seek help from within the company. Fowler’s open letter addressed sexual harassment claims that occurred at Uber, which brought on an outcry by the public – resulting in an Uber boycott. Fowler’s Tweet stating “I wrote something up this weekend about my year at Uber, and why I left:” including a link sharing the infamous blog post quickly gained attention. This tweet quickly went viral, resulting in over twenty-two thousand retweets and over thirty thousand likes.
